Dr. Hahnemann is presented as a combination of 'fussy pedant'
and 'violent revolutionary'. Most of what he did stem from these
two strands. The Organon stems from the first strand, and
homeopathy in toto stems from the second. Classicalism, so-
called, rests very largely upon the belief that the Organon
represents the most important achievement of Hahnemann and that
following it forms the basis for the whole of homeopathy. No
great understanding of homeopathy and its development can be
complete without some account of the life and personality of its
founder, Samuel Hahnemann.
The reason being the
immense impact he had on the system which he created. In order
to obtain such an account, we can profitably start by reading
the biographies by Hobhouse, Cook, Bradford and Haehl, which
give a good account of the man and his life. If we then ignore
his many travels and the main aspects of his career, which bear
little direct relevance to homeopathy, we can peer through the
details to see the essence of the man. We can focus on three
chief aspects as being especially relevant to the study of
homeopathy. These are his personality, the development of his
system and his practice. If we immerse ourselves in all the
sources of information we soon begin to appreciate much more
about Hahnemann as a person --who comes alive before us-- and of
how his system and practice developed. Hahnemann possessed three
main qualities which really stand out as being especially
noteworthy, unusual and phenomenal. These are his astonishing
linguistic skills, his revolutionary character & his
painstaking, methodical and dictatorial nature. Antioxidants
were discovered long ago in 1900 but its medical application has
only recently drawn attention, although Homoeopathic literature
harbors and confirms Antioxidant nature of Homoeopathic
medicines.
Antimiasmatic nature of
Antioxidant is obvious by its potential to prevent and / or cure
chronic diseases like metabolic disorders, Cardio-Vascular
disorders, Essential Hypertension, Cerebro-Vascular disorders
(Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer’s disease etc.), Cataract,
Carcinomatosis etc. For authenticity more research is needed to
use Homoeopathic medicine as specifically preventive against IHD,
CVD, Carcinoma and other chronic diseases. Many a homoeopathic
medicine has flavones as their constituent (crategeus,
chelidonium, avena sativa) .Flavones are coined as
antioxidants.E.g:- a) Carotene (constituent of Calendula &
Capsicum) is a systemic & local Antioxidant, protects against
Carcinoma lung, cervix & cardiovascular diseases. b) Ascorbic
acid [(0.1-0.5 %) constituent of Capsicum] is an ideal electron
donor reducing super oxide, Hydroxyl radicals, Hypochlorus acid
& other reactive oxidants from activated Micro / Macrophages,
Anti atherosclerosis, pulmonary antioxidant defense against
smoking etc. Calendula contains carotene & lycopene both are
essential radical scavengers, which reduces free radical
mediated tissue injury.
Calendula is a remarkable healing
agent; in wounds delayed healing occurs due to repeated free
radical mediated tissue injury at the site of wound. Thus
application of calendula hastens the process of healing and
works wonders. Apart from this it is reported that Calendula is
a good remedy in cases of Carcinoma & has shown good results in
pre-malignant condition (Sub mucous fibrosis) c) Copper (Cuprum
metallicum) - Essential constituent of super oxide dismutase. (a
potent antioxidant enzyme), Major component of ceruloplasmin (Cerebro-vascular
Antioxidant) d) Zinc (Zincum metallicum) - Essential component
of super oxide dismutase e) Selenium (Also constituent of
Agaricus muscarius) - Essential constituent of glutathione
peroxide. First line antiperoxidation defense. - Cerebro-vascular
Antioxidant. Agaricus contains Selenium and Selenium deficiency
is known for Nutritional muscular dystrophy (NMD), which is
oxidant stress mediated. Hence both the above Homoeopathic
medicine could be used in NMD to curb the oxidant stress.
f) Silymarin & Silybin
(constituent of Carduus) inhibits lipid peroxidation- Hepatic
Antioxidant. g) Lycopene (constituent of calendula off.)
Systemic antioxidant.
h) Fucus ves. - Carotene- Systemic Antioxidant i) Alfalfa – (It
is considered as the “Father of all food”) Modern research shows
its use as an agent to fight against atherosclerosis& heart
disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and endometriosis; treat drug
& alcohol dependency. Since it alkalizes the body, helps with
detoxification.
j) Black cohosh- balances
hormonal levels during & after menopause, thus directly helping
in the maintenance of bone health. -In actual fact, homeopathic
'drugs' or remedies are indeed safe for the mother and the
developing infant alike. Mothers (and fathers) who are treated
with homeopathic remedies prior to and throughout the pregnancy,
labor and delivery are healthier and are far less likely to
develop problems. Any problems which do develop would likely be
of a milder nature than they would have been without homeopathic
care. Homeopathy is the safest and most effective method of
treatment of the pregnant woman's emotional and physical
well-being.
There are certain points which
help us to conclude Homoeopathy as the Modern medicine.
i) Many medications used in Allopathic medicine are dangerous in
large quantities. Drug overdoses, either accidental or
otherwise, cause many deaths every year. Homeopathic remedies
are made with very minute quantities (less than molecular
concentrations in each dose) of plant, mineral and occasionally
animal substances. Usually they are contained in solid lactose
(milk sugar) granules. Ingestion of any large quantity of a
homeopathic remedy, whether indicated for a certain condition or
not, causes no harm.
2) Drugs used in Allopathy are
usually prescribed with a strength proportionate to the
seriousness of the symptoms. Their effect is often dramatic and
fast. They remove the symptoms but are harsh on the body.
Homeopathy works by gently stimulating the body's own defense
mechanisms to correcting the condition. While in some cases,
homeopathic treatment of specific acute symptoms may be quite
quick, for chronic conditions it may take weeks for any
noticeable change to take place. Because homeopathy works at
balancing the body, the symptoms disappear because they are not
needed any more.
3) Medications used in Allopathy
have a dramatic effect on the body. They are not always
selective and often have undesired secondary effects even when
used as prescribed. These secondary effects may in themselves be
quite serious (the liver, whose job it is to eliminate toxic
substances from the body, is often affected, for example) which
require further medication. This further medication to treat the
secondary effects may itself have undesired tertiary
side-effects which require further medication... and so on.
Homeopathic remedies, due to their extremely low concentrations
and effect of naturally stimulating the body's own defenses, do
not have side effects. The worst possible result of any quantity
of a remedy ingested in error is that nothing happens.
4) Drugs may range from
moderately inexpensive for off-the-shelf generic drugs to quite
expensive for patent prescriptions. The high price of the patent
drugs is to pay for the large research and development programs
used to develop the drugs. Treatment of most conditions by
traditional medical doctors is covered by provincial and/or
private medical plans. Homeopathic remedies are made from very
small quantities of readily-available natural materials. Their
composition is well-known to the homeopathic community and no
trade-secrets or patents for these exist. The cost of producing
them is low. The amount of any remedy required to treat a single
person for any phase of homeopathic treatment is very less. No
provincial health insurance plans cover homeopathy.
5) Allopathy considers the
patient's symptoms and prescribes certain treatment to alleviate
the effects of these symptoms. Often this treatment includes
prescription of drugs. These target the symptoms, not the
disease. Homeopathy considers the patient's specific symptoms,
other physical characteristics, and general physical and
emotional state. In the context of the whole, the homeopath
suggests certain homeopathic remedies to address the cause of
the problem, not just treat the symptoms.
6) Allopathy is limited in
treating many chronic conditions. As a result, many of them have
been classified as incurable. It is good for addressing
mechanical problems (e.g. broken bone) and for diagnosis of
internal problems. Homeopathy cannot directly address broken
bones or the physical trauma of injuries, although it can help
reduce the shock to the body and speed up the healing process.
Homeopathy can often be effective in the case of chronic
conditions that Allopathy is unable to cure. Homeopathy may not
work quickly, especially for what Allopathy classifies as
chronic disease. Patience and a willingness to see the cure
through to its conclusion are pre-requisites for success. So
from the above facts, we can come to a conclusion that
Homoeopathy is the most modern system
Homoeopathy is the first system
in which the process of nanification started and continuing in
the name of potentisation. As scientists, searching and finding
new horizons in Nanotechnology that become actually our sky to
fly high. We all homoeopaths must study the new awakenings in
the modern science and use it suitably for explaining
Homoeopathy and developing this system. |
