 PRESCRIBER TO INDIAN DRUGS IN BOERICKE’S MATERIA MEDICA

 INTRODUCTION :
1. Selection of a particular topic and utility of Indian drugs :
This work is intended for easy reference for students and busy practioneers. The medicines refered here under the heading Indian drugs are less used and also known to students very little. But these remedies are of much therapeutic utility and because of ignorance these remedies are used less commonly. Also these remedies are also mentioned very little in other books. So my work is intended to give an easy reference to these Indian drugs.

2. MERITS
As already mentioned above this help an easy reference for students and busy practioneers. By referring this work one can go through the symptoms of each drug system wise and thus helpful for comparing with that of other drugs.

3. DEMERITS
a. Gradation cannot be mentioned.
b. Less number of drugs are mentioned.
c. Indigenious drugs are widely available in India. But their therapeutic application are less and less known to Homoeopathic physicians.

1. Great uneasiness with weakness and unable to do any work – Abroma angusta (P-1091).

A. Headache.

3. Headache appears between 4-8 pm, due to congestion. Heat in vertex appears in evening which is better by eating _ Aegle folia (P-1096).
4. Pain in temples with heat in vertex relieved by cold air and cold application – Andrographis paniculata (P-1098).
5. Throbbing pain in occiput with heaviness –Andrographis paniculata (P-1098).
6. Gnawing pain in one temple at a time. – Atista indica (P-1099).
7. Throbbing headache especially right sided worse in open air aggravated by stooping. – Azadiracta indica (P-1101).

3. Upper lids of eyes swollen. – Aegle folia (P-1096).
4. Photophobia on opening the eyes; light trembles before him for a few seconds; obliging him to shut his eyes. – Atista indica (P-1099).
5. Trembling of light before eyes after sleep. Burning in eyes.—Atista indica (P-1099).
6. Eyes are red; congested;burn; dull; heavy; pressive pain in right eyeball—Azadiracta indica (P-1100).
7. Severe pain as if they were burnt; before and during the invasion of fever; relieved by cold applications—Caesalpinia bonducella (P-1104).

15. Pain, hyperaemia; lacrymation due to nasal catarrah, oipthalmia es[pecially in infants; mist before the eyes when fixing them on something. – Ocimum sanctum. (P-1127).
16. Dilated pupils.—Trichosanthes dioica (P-1134).
17. Yellow discolration during fever with hepatosplenomegaly. –Trichosanthesw dioica (P-1134).
18. Redness of the eyes with yellowish tinge in eyes—Andrographis paniculata (P-1098).
19. Eye affections are successfully treated by this drug. –Calotropis lactum. (P-1107).
20. Thin watery discharge from eyes.—Acalypha indica (P-1094).

18. Vomiting with cough. No food or drink is retained in stomach – Justicia adhathoda (P-1122).
19. Eases difficult expectoration – Ocimum sanctum (P-1128).
20. Pain in chest while coughing or sneezing. Pain in middle of sternum; pleuritic pains – Ocimum sanctum (P-1128).
21. Pleurisy – Ocimum sanctum (P-1126).

E. Haemoptysis (Expectoration of blood).
1. Employed in beginning of phthsis with haemoptysis and arterial haemorrhage; but no febrile disturbance. – Acalypha indica (P-1093).
2. Weak in morning, gains strength during day. All pathological haemorrhages have a morning aggravation - Acalypha indica (P-1093).
3. Dry cough and thick white expectoration. – Boerrhavia diffusa (P-1103).
4. Haemoptysis – Ficus religiosa (1112).
5. Antihaemorrhagic remedy. Has been used successfully in phthsical haemorrhages when other remedies fails. Patient is weak; restless – Ficus religiosa (P-1112).
6.Highly efficacious when Justicia adhathoda fails and used when there is mere haemoptysisand haematemesis – Justicia rubrum (P-1122).
F. Clinical conditions.
1. Bronchitis and bronchopneumonia with profuse expectoration –Abroma augusta (P-1091).
2. Bronchitis; pneumonia; cough – Aegle folia (P-1096).
3. Bronchitis; pneumonia; phthsis; haemoptysis – Justicia adhathoda (P-1121).
4. Remittent fever associated with cold. Cough; pneumonia; bronchitis or diarrhoea ; asthma – Ocimum sanctum (P-1126).
5. Bronchitis; pneumonia; bronchopneumonia; asthma – Solanum xanthocarpum (P-1130).
6. Pneumonic tuberculosis – Calotropis gigantea (P-1105).

VIII. Mouth, Tongue, Gums

A. Apthae, Soremouth, lips, ulceration, ulcers
1.Lips dry, pale or bluish with constant dryness of mouth-- Abroma augusta (P-1091)
2. Bleeding from the gums, Halitosis –Atista indica(P-1099)
3.Syphilite affections, stomatitis, apthae; thrush on left and upper side of the tongue –Hydrocoytle asiatica (P-1116)
4.Lips bright red, Apthae in mouth, lips dry and black as if burnt-- Ocimum sanctum (P-1127)
5.Scorbutic gums –Syzigium Jambolanum (P-1131)
6. In the case of spongy gums, a decoction of bark is used as gargle Syzigium jambolanum(P-1131)

B.Tongue, Taste , Saliva , Stammering , Thirst
1.Dryness of mouth , drinks large amount of cold water at a time,which does not relieve the dryness, dry, clean tongue; speech indistinct.Insatiable thirst—Abroma augusta (P-1091).
2.Dryness of the tongue – Acalypha indica (P-1094).
3. Insipid taste in mouth;bad and bitter taste in the morning -- Andersonia (P—1097).
4. Bitter taste in mouth with dryness, tongue coated white --Andrographis paniculata(P-1098).
5.Bleeding from gums; bitter taste after fever paroxysm is over—Atista indica (P-1099).
6. Dryness of mouth with unbearable thirst during hot stage. Constant spitting in the morning – Atista indica (P-1099)
7. Glossitis; putrid taste in mouth; no thirst but mouth is clammyand bitter – Azadiracta indica (P-1100).
8. Tongue painful with burning sensation as if scalded;papillae seems enlarged;prominent. Saliva tastes salty. Thirst for large quantities of cold water – Azadiracta indica (P-1100).
9.Very thirsty, especially at long intervals or sometimes thirstless – Azadiracta indica (P-1101).
10.Mildly coated; white tongue, bloodless, pale, white, moist. Thirst for cold water during heat stage of fever – Caesalpina bonducella (P-1104).
11.Foul breath; pain on moving the jaw. Soreness and swelling on right side of palate – Calotropis gigantean (P-1106).
12.Dryness of mouth with great thirst for large quantity of water at a time; worse after micturition—Cephalandra indica (P-1108).

20. Thickly coated with white or yellowish fur—Nyctanthes arbortristis (P-1125).

24.Profuse salivation with intense thirst for cold water. Sensation of dryness in upper jaw; Gums swollen; hard foul breath – Terminalia chebula (p-1132).
25. Flabby; dry, brown coating on the tip of the tongue; sore; raw tongue—Terminalia chebula (P-1132).
26. Thirst with dryness; slimy salivation; bitter insipid taste in mouth- Trichosanthes dioica (P-1134).

3. Drawing pains in back after a cold bath – Caesalpinia bonducella (P-1105)
4. Pain in back and sacrum radiates towards abdomen and thighs –Joanesia asoca (P-1120).
5.Intense pain in right lumbar region and lower spinal column aggravated on sitting, better by lying down in bed or by sleeping. Pain in back of neck – Terminalia chebula (P-1133).
6.Pain in back and lumbar region, worse in afternoon – A eglef olia (P-1096).
7. Cannot sit straight due to spinal pain – Desmodium gangeticum (P-1110).
8. Sciatica – Nyctanthes arbortristis (P-1125).

XII. Upper extremities
(Arms,Hands,Fingers,Nails).
1.Weakness and heaviness of limbs. – Atista indica (P-1100).
2. Numbness of limbs especially right hand, sensation as if paralyzed. Burning of hands. Strength of hands diminished – Azadiracta indica (P-1102).
3. Rheumatic like pains all over – Boerrhaavia diffusa (P-1103).
4.Cramping pain in the center of right palm when grasping anything lasts for many days. Pain in the wrist joint aggravated by movement –
- Calotropis gigantean (P-1106).
5. Aching pain in extremities – Gentiana chirata (P-1114).
6. Revival of old rheumatic pains. Contractions of forearm; irresistible desire to stretch. Pain in all joints worse left side –Hydrocotyle asiatica (P-1117).
7. Sensation as if hot water runs through marrow of bone, myalgia with weakness and crampy numbness in all muscles. Rheumatoid arthritis, gout, unable to stand – Hydrocotyle asiatica (P-1117).
8. Weak feeling in limbs; pain in small joints; shifting pain; numbness of limbs –Joanesia asoca (P-1120).
9. Muscular pain in right deltoid muscle; itcing better by scratching – Terminalia chebula (P-1133).
10. In severe and advanced cases of syphilis with thickening of ends of nails – Calotropis gigantean (P-1105).

XIII. Heart;Pulse; Palpitation;Chest.
1.Weakness of heart;palpitation worse on movement ;faint feeling- Abroma augusta (P-1091).
2.Pulse is soft and compressible- Acalypha indica (P-1093).
3. Thready pulse- Achyranthes aspera (P-1095).
4. Aching in the lower part of right side of chest, below the nipple; stitches especially on right side. Crampy pains in the lower part – Azadiracta indica (P-1102).
5. Frequent palpitations and intermittent, throbbing pains in cardiac region – Boerrhaavia diffusa (P-1103).
6.Hypertension with ringing in ears and heat in vertex – Boerrhaavia diffusa (P-1103).

14.Intense pressive pain onright side of chest – Terminalia chebula (P-1133).
15. Pressure pain in cardiac region,some heart beats are feeble or have a low sound, some normal and some have a loud sound –Termianalia chebula (P-1133).
16.Pulse for some moments is rapid and hard, and for some moments is weak –Terminalia chebula (P-1133).
17.Excessive palpitations due to severe weakness or due to excessive seminal emissions – Tinospora cordifolia (P-1134).
